You stand in front of your best friend since kindergarten and crush since last year, Gilbert Beilschmidt. Looking down at your feet you wait for him to react to the news.
"Y-You're moving?" he asks in disbelief. All you could manage is a short nod to confirm. "When?"
"Today," you manage to whisper out.
"Where?" he asks still asking one word questions.
"Canada (lets say you don't live there)," you tell him still staring at your shoes.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Gilbert asks. You look up at him to see his eyes filled with hurt and abandonedment.
"I didn't want you to leave me," you choke out a little louder than before. "I don't want you to hate me for leaving because..." You gently cup the side of his face and capture his lips with yours. Gilbert stands in shock as you do the thing you've only dreamed of. Before Gilbert can react you pull away, both of your faces bright red in embarrassment. "... I really like you."
"________! Come on! It's time to go!" your father calls from the car and you rush off to said car.
"Bye!" you call out the window waving at all your friends. Gilbert is the only one not waving as his hand is gently touching his lips where you kissed them. Your car soon disappears down the road along with the moving trucks and only then does Gilbert start to cry because he had realized that he may never see you again.

~~~Time skip~! to years later~~~
~Your POV~
You sigh feeling great as you open the doors of your new coffee shop. You had gone through college and with some help from your parents you had finally opened a coffee shop right here in the town you grew up in. Stepping into the new shop you walk around admiring everything. As you're walking around the store you hear the soft chiming as the door opens and in walks two people, both males. One is tall with glasses and an emotionless face while the other is small with a smile on his face.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for the owner, Mr. ______ _______. I wanted to apply for a job here," the smaller one says after tapping your shoulder.
"I'm the owner," you tell him.
"Oh! Well I'm here to apply for the new job," he tells you handing you over the application form he filled out.
"So Tino, you seem like a good employee. Is your friend here applying too?" you ask reading over the sheet.
"No he just came with me," Tino answers for him.
"Well I'm ________ _________," you say holding out your hand to for the taller man to shake.
He nods shaking your hand and says, "I'm Berwald and this is my wife." Tino blushes at this and mouthes 'sorry' to you.
"No it's okay," you say patting Tino on the shoulder. "I'm happy for you two. Now lets see if I can find a uniform for you." You walk behind the counter where a few boxes are lined up. Opening the first one you pull out the smallest size you can find. The uniform is just an apron with the shop's name on it. It's a dark color as to not stain easily with multiple pockets for easy reach. "Lets see if this will fit," you say handing it to him. The application had notes on the uniform as what to wear underneath the apron.
"I didn't expect you to be into that type of thing," Tino comments as he puts on the apron.
"What thing again?" you ask going over a stock list.
"That Berwald called me his wife," Tino answers looking down at the uniform.
You pull out a name tag but mess up on typing out the name as you hear this, cursing under your breath at the machine. "Oh yeah..." You trail off lost in your memories as you hand Tino his name tag. "Well years ago I had this really big crush on another boy but I had to move and I haven't seen him since. Before I left I told him how I felt and kissed him though." You shake your head to clear yourself of the memory.
"Do you feel the same now?" Berwald asks.
You blush and nod saying, "Yeah, I still love him. Never got to know what he thinks of me...." Berwald nods at your answer and thinks back to all those years ago. He had seen you kiss Gilbert that day you moved. Only he and a few others had seen. No one found out what Gilbert had thought of you after that because he would always avoid the subject. Right now he's dating a girl by the name of Elizaveta Hedervary from Hungary. A couple people say that the only reason he does is because he doesn't want to get hit by the frying pan she carries around. Tino on the other hand doesn't know you for he moved here from Finland.
You look up from what you're doing as you hear the little chime at the door go off again. In walks in a tall man with violet eyes and a childish smile on his face. With him is a female with short hair and a huge chest.
"May I help you?" you ask from behind the counter.
"Da, I would like to apply for a job," the woman hands you an appilcation.
By the end of the day you have four employees, 2 male Tino and Vash, and 2 female Katayushi and Lili.
The next day you're in the store with the rest of your workers and Berwald, who wanted to come and see how everything's going. You turn the sign at the door to open and wait. Not too long after people start to come in. A one table has three men an italian, a german, and a japanese man. The german seems to be irritated by the italian's constant talking but the japanese man just reads the atmosphere and refrains from speaking.
At another table, this one is larger, five men sit talking to each other. Ivan, Katayushi's younger brother, is sitting next to a chinese man and talking to him. A canadian is sitting unnoticed next to a loud american man who's arguing with a british man with large eyebrows.
You walk up to their table to ask if they want anything else. Most of them have something already but your'e just making sure. The only other people are three friends of Berwald and Tino.
"Would that be all you want today?" You ask approaching the table. A few of them nod but when the american looks at you something sets you off as he stares at you. You're about to ask what's wrong when he suddenly bursts out.
"Hey! I know you! You're that kid that moved away!" he says loudly drawing attention to you.
"What the bloody hell are you talking about Alfred?" the british man asks.
"Don't you remember Iggy? This is the kid that kissed Gilbert!" Alfred says loud enough for everyone to hear. At the mention of Gilbert your face turns red in a blush.
"W-Wait, you s-saw that?" you ask in a normal level of talking, your face still bright red.
"You bet I did!" he says triumphantly still as loud as before.
"D-Did Gilbert by a-any chance say anyt-thing about me?" you ask looking at the floor as your face lights up more.
"Nope, I don't think so," Alfred says shrugging. "He would always avoid the subject."
"Oh," is all you can say as you walk back to the cash register and stand there depressed. From what you heard it sounded like Gilbert would never want to see you again. You didn't know kissing someone could have that effect on them. You should have just kept it a secret and not told him. Back then you had thought you would never move back here so you risked everything just to kiss him. You still haven't found anyone else you felt so deeply about.
You slowly sip out of your cup looking down at the black coffee that has a slight reflection of your depressed face. You've been standing like this for almost half an hour.
"_________," Berwald says placing a hand on your shoulder. "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like? I'm drowning my sadness in coffee," you say not looking up at him.
He sighs before saying, "Just because Gilbert didn't talk about you doesn't mean he doesn't feel the same way."
"No he doesn't! He probably hates me! He probably doesn't want to see my face again! And then I'll have to close up the shop and move out of town because I'll be to ashamed to see him!" you whimper into your cup. Before either you or Berwald can say anything a voice draws your attention.
"Excuse me," someone says causing you to look up slightly at the person.
"Yes? What can I do for you?" you ask. This man seems french with long blond hair and a definite accent.
"I would just like to order for me and my friends," he tells you. You quickly get everything, trying to distract yourself with work.
"Here let me help you with that," you say taking half the order and carrying it to his table. At the table is a spaniard with brown hair and a hungarian girl hitting someone on the head with a frying pan. You quickly set the things down on the table and grab the pan.
"Excuse me but I'll have to ask you to stop hitting my customers or I'll be forced to kick you out," you tell the girl who glares at you for stopping them.
"And what kind of authority do you have here?" she snaps pulling her frying pan from your hands.
"I'm the owner, ________ _______," you tell her looking her straight in the eyes. She just turns to her coffe with a huff. You turn to the man she was hitting. He has white hair and bright red eyes and is staring at you strangely... he reminds you of someone... he looks just like... Gilbert.
"________?" he asks looking up at you from his seat. That voice, that hair, those eyes. Everything's the same! This is Gilbert! Your face turns brighter red than before as you realize who it is but quickly turn around and run to the back of the store into your office, closing the door behind you.
"_______!" you hear Gilbert call you.
A knocking comes from the locked door but you don't answer just sit against it with your knees pulled up to your chest. "_______ what's wrong?" Tino asks through the door.
"Leave me alone!" you yell back through the door. Silent tears roll down your face but you don't dare let him hear you crying.
"Come on _________ you can't stay in there all day," Tino tells you trying at the door knob again.
"Yes I can!" you call back to him, trying and failing to wipe the tears away.
"________, Gilbert wants to talk to you," Tino tells you.
"He just wants to tell me he never wants to see me again!" you cry out more tears streaming down your face.
"That's not true, birdie," Gilbert says through the door. Your breath catches in your throat at that name. He would call you birdie years ago. Sure you said it was girly and sounded weird but he still wouldn't stop calling you it and it always made you feel special.
"Yes it is," you say calming down a bit but not completely. "Alfred said you would avoid talking about me after I left."
"There's a reason for that, birdie," he tells you. You feel butterflies in your stomach as he calls you it again.
"And what's that reason?" you ask curious.
"You have to come out of there to find out," he says. You hesitate for a moment before pulling yourself up from your seat on the floor and unlocking the door resulting in a small click. You pull the door open slowly and step out. Your eyes are red from crying but you've managed to stop the tears from flowing. You look at the ground as you approach Gilbert, not having the courage to look up at him.
"What's your reason?" you ask still staring at your feet. You feel his hands gently lift your chin up so you're looking him in the eyes. You're looking into those bright red eyes that you love so much.
He slowly moves to whisper in your ear and says just loud enough to hear, "I never got to say, I love you too." You're shocked but don't get to say anything as Gilbert presses his lips up to yours in a kiss. One of his hands is on the back of your head so you couldn't pull away even if you wanted to while the other one pulls you closer to him by your waist. You're shocked at first, not able to move, but after a few seconds you relax into the kiss. Your chest feels like it wants to explode right now and you're sure everyone can hear your heart heart pounding in your chest. You slowly pull away for air and a loud irritated voice causes both of you to look over at the hungarian girl from before.
"Who the hell is that Gilbert?" she demands, frying pan in hand. You slightly move behind Gilbert at the sight of her angry face.
"This is the awesome me's totally awesome boyfriend," he says putting a hand on top of your head and ruffling your hair.
"No! I'm your girlfriend!" the girl yells at him. She's stepping closer to you two and you're afraid you'll get to know what it feels like to have a bashed skull.
"Not anymore, you're too unawesome for the awesome me!" Gilbert says confidently. "Besides, I saw you making out with the unawesome piano player yesterday. I was going to break up with the unawesome you today anyways."
The girl grumbles before stomping out of the shop. You swear she has smoke coming out of her ears. She loudly slams the door to the shop, causing somethings to fall off counters but you catch the glass ones before they hit the floor. You set the items back on the counter before you feel Gilbert's breath on the back of your neck.
"Now where were we?" he whispers in your ear. You turn around to face him when he pushes his lips back onto your's adding more passion into this one. His tounge forces its way into your mouth and starts to explore the wet cavern before you push him off you.
"G-Gil, stop," you say panting a bit from the lack of air.
"Why! That's not awesome ________! Why did you stop me!?!" he whines his arms on either side of you on the front counter keeping you from going anywhere.
"My customers," you say a large blush making its way to your face. "We're still in my shop. I'm supposed to be working." It's true, pretty much everyone is watching the two of you making out.
"Fine," he whines standing up straight. You stand up as he moves out of the way and fix your clothes. He kisses your cheek and as he pulls away slowly he whispers into your ear, "But you have to come over tonight instead." Your face turns even brighter red as he says this. He starts to walk back to his seat but not before calling back to you saying, "Everyone's staring because they're jealous of our awesome love!"
By the end of the day you luckily didn't lose any customers because of Gilbert's little actions. When you walked pass him he would smack your butt and when he came up to order something he would always find a way to sneak in a kiss of some sort, from a quick peck to quickly making out with you. Through the whole day he didn't leave and you could constantly feel him staring at you. It made you feel a bit antsy but it felt good to be back with him after all these years.
You pull off your apron and pull on your jacket as you exit the shop having closed it up. Suddenly you're lifted up causing you to squeak in surprise.
"What the-!" you start surprised but you stop as you hear Gilbert's signature 'Kesesesese~!'
"Don't worry Liebling~! We're going to have some fun back at my house~!" he says causing you to go bright red for the millionth time today. You're the last one here so you're glad no one can see you like this. And just like that Gilbert starts to carry you off to his house.
This is a entry for :iconlightoflaurelin:'s contest.
This was supposed to be for the saying; You don't know what you've got until it's gone.
I tried to incorporate it (it's in the beginning) but I probably failed at that... well at least I entered a contest!
I know I made Hungary like a jackass but I just thought she should act like that in this one. Note: I don't have anything against her!
If people really want me to write a lemon and it would be my FIRST one! (even though I read it all the time) just comment me and that will decide for itself.
